The people & stories
We have always brought forward real people and their stories, because they are at the heart of the difference that we are looking to create.
Every story is different…
When you meet one person with a brain injury, you have met one person with a brain injury!
Brain injury pays no heed to age, sex, faith, gender, or socioeconomic status. It can happen to anyone, anywhere, anytime.
The causes of brain injuries are diverse and include developmental factors, physical trauma, organic injuries such as strokes and aneurysms, as well as lack of oxygen due to cardiac arrest or drug poisoning.
The true scope of brain injuries is likely underestimated due to unreported cases from concussions, intimate partner violence, violence among the homeless, incarceration, combat injuries, and survivors of opioid or stimulant poisoning.
Many people experience changes in all areas of their life, which may include:
Relationships
Employment
Behaviours
Communication
Cognitive function
Physical abilities
Emotional
